Laura Coates '01

Laura Coates is a CNN legal analyst and Oxygen Media host who specializes in the intersection of civil rights and criminal prosecution. She is the host of the Gracie Award-winning live daily eponymous show on SiriusXM’s UrbanView channel and a lecturer of law at George Washington University Law School.

Widely considered a constitutional expert, Laura is a former federal prosecutor who served as assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, as well as a trial attorney in the Voting Rights Section of the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. In private practice, Laura was an intellectual property litigator with an expertise in First Amendment, defamation and media law.

She is the best-selling author of “You Have the Right…: A Constitutional Guide to Policing the Police.”
